Accessibility

Usable, and honest about it.

This page covers the website and the rooms separately, because they are different problems and only one of them can be fixed by editing a file.

This website

It is built to meet WCAG 2.1 AA. In practice that means:

  • Every page works from the keyboard alone, and the focus outline is always visible.
  • The whole site works with JavaScript switched off, including the navigation and every form. Nothing here needs a script to be readable or usable.
  • Text and controls meet AA contrast against the dark background they sit on.
  • Headings are in order and describe the page, so a screen reader's outline is a genuine table of contents.
  • Photographs carry descriptions. Purely decorative marks, the star on a divider, a venue's wordmark above its own name, are hidden from screen readers rather than read out twice.
  • Animation is limited to a fade as content scrolls in, and it is switched off entirely if your system is set to reduce motion.
  • Text can be enlarged to 200% without anything being cut off or overlapping.

What we know is imperfect

The venue photographs are described by what they show rather than in full detail. The five venue websites are separate builds, made at different times, and have not all been held to this standard, following a link from this site may take you somewhere less careful. We are working through them.

The dining rooms

These are five old buildings in two Long Island villages and they are not equally easy to get into. Step-free access, restroom layout, table heights and the amount of noise vary genuinely between them, and we would rather you asked than arrived and found out.

Call the venue directly and ask specifically, the person who answers is standing in the room. If it is easier, write to us and we will find out and tell you plainly which of the five will suit you best on the night you are coming.

Telling us about a problem

Email hello@stellinahospitality.com, or use thecontact form. Describe what happened and what you were using, that is usually enough for us to reproduce it. We will reply within one business day and tell you what we can fix and when.
